It's Certain

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

My preparation time has come to an end and with that also my time at Buchenauerhof. What’s next? You’ll get all the updates and news in the video below or by continue reading.

In my bible reading plan, I’m currently in the book of Daniel, which encourages me a lot. A verse I want to share with you is Daniel 3:25 (NIV):

Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 3 believing Jews, refused to worship and bow down before the statue of king Nebuchadnezzar, as he commanded. By doing so, they would break God’s law and sin against him, because God is the only one to be worshipped. The punishment: they get thrown into a blazing furnace, which even killed the men who threw them in, because it was so hot. And then this verse comes. These 3 men are walking around the fire. And a fourth one with them? God doesn’t redeem us out of our suffering, but is with us in the midst of it! No matter what we face, where we are or what we experience. Because we believe in Jesus, God has given us the Holy Spirit who lives in us and is with us!

Time of preparation

Saying goodbye to the new missionaries (4 are missing here)

The last weeks of my preparation seminary has been really valuable. Especially the week-long missionary gathering, where we were around 50 missionaries. A week to chat, to hear from God’s word and where missionaries shared a bit about their past years. I’m really encouraged by this preparation time and I’m super grateful for having these 2 months.

And now?

Since almost a week I’m in the so called “travel service”. I’ll be going to churches, small groups, youth groups and friends (so also to you) and tell about my work. I’d be happy about your invitation! Currently I’m planning all this out.

Tomorrow I’ll be on vacation for a week, my first and only days off this year! I’m so excited to do nothing for a week, to relax and to read books.

Onto the island

In the second week of December, I’m heading to the UK, where I’ll meet my partner organization AIM (Africa Inland Mission) and get to know them a little. While I’m over there I will visit my sister, spend some time with her and also get to speak in her small group.

Beyond the big pond

(as we Germans like to say)

From mid-January to mid-February, I’ll be traveling to the US to also present my work and visit my supporters and friends. I’ll probably be in Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Wisconsin and North Carolina, as well as maybe Manitoba, Canada. If you’re somewhere around that area, just let me know and I’d be happy to come over!

Date of departure

When I’m not in England, the US or on vacation, I’m in travel service and I’d love to be invited by you guys.

Next July I’ll be for sure going to Torit, South Sudan for a year. Together with 4-8 new missionaries I’ll get to know the culture and I’ll be able to get a feeling for mission. I will have a mentor and a really intensive supervision. There’s also several project in South Sudan that I will get to know and be able to work at. On this 10 year old picture you can see the missions base, on which I’ll be stationed.

The missions base in Torit, South Sudan

Why such a long introduction year? AIM has noticed that missionaries end their ministry after a short time, because they are overwhelmed with the situation, culture and language. So I’m really excited to have this year to overcome the culture shock and immerse into Africa.

After this year we will then decide together where I’ll be stationed as a photographer and videographer. How long my first term will be has not been decided yet. Most likely that’s gonna be 3-4 years.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey and for your support. I hope we’ll see each other until July! As I said, don’t hesitate to invite me! If you have any feedback concerning my blog, videos and methods of communication, please let me know! I’d love to update you with the tools that are easiest for you! God bless you and see you the next time!

See ya, Matze
